Our training offerings cover musicians and music enthusiasts at every stage of their learning. We conduct workshops in schools, hold public lecture-recitals, help schools enhance their Chinese orchestras and ensemble, provide systematic grading certification, coach promising new talent and more.
Under the Arts Education Programmes by National Arts Council, we have run 5 endorsed programmes for students in primary, secondary and tertiary levels. These programmes included a mix of workshops and performance-lectures. We have also run customised programmes tailored to the needs of school curricula, such as specialised workshops for O- and A-Level music elective students.
In 2015, we partnered teahouse Tea Bone Zen Mind to curate English-language Chinese instruments & tea appreciation sessions for the public. The attendees gained in-depth knowledge on the construction, techniques and history of each instrument, while at the same time experienced refreshing and exquisite tea and food combinations.
In 2016, the academy helped restructure Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road)’s Chinese orchestra into a plucked string ensemble, to focus their efforts on a new and rising category in the Singapore Youth Festival adjudication.
In 2017, the academy partnered Nanyang Technological University’s Confucius Institute to launch the Chinese Music Instrumental Grading Examinations, which fills a void for certifications in the industry. The examinations are similar to the ABRSM system, whereby examinees can achieve Grades 1 to 8 and a Certificate in Professional Performance. Our first year saw over 1,500 candidates taking the exams.
The academy has expanded to conduct a mentorship programme for young Chinese enthusiasts, to groom them for performances in our TENG Gives Back series.
The academy now also facilitates scholarships for young talents in need of financial assistance to pursue Chinese music learning.
